Kalamkari Hues – Hand-painted Sarees in Cotton and Silk
The age-old art of Kalamkari, believed to have originated from Persia, dates back to several centuries, and is now practised in Andhra Pradesh exclusively. In this art, illustrations are entirely hand-drawn and hand-painted or block-painted by artists. This collection by Rangkosh features the Srikalahasti & Machilipatnam style, distinct with its patterns and figures inspired from puranas and Hindu mythology, while some feature ethnic motifs like peacocks and flowers. Shop sarees in cotton and cottonsilk, made using natural dyes and mordants and require about eighteen arduous steps for completion, thus a true labor of love.
