Kalamkari Tales – Vibrant dupattas with alluring hand-drawn illustrations
The age-old art of Kalamkari, believed to have originated from Persia, dates back to several centuries, and is now practised in Andhra Pradesh exclusively. In this art, illustrations are entirely hand-drawn and hand-painted by artists. This collection by VarnaMudra features the Srikalahasti style, distinct with its patterns and figures inspired from puranas and Hindu mythology, while some feature ethnic motifs like peacocks and flowers. These are made using natural dyes and mordants and require about eighteen arduous steps for completion.
